SANWO-OLU TASKS MSMEs ON TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION

Lagos State Governor has urged Micro Small and Medium Enterprises, MSMEs, to adopt an innovative approach and utilise technological methods that will lead to higher performance and increased productivity if they want to remain relevant in the 21st-century economy.
Governor Sanwo-Olu disclosed this in his address at the third edition of the Nigerian Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (NASME) Lagos 2019 Business Roundtable Conference held recently in Alausa, Ikeja.
Represented by the Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, Dr. (Mrs.) Lola Akande, he said that the advent of technological innovations has turned the world into a digital and global village where less is required in terms of cost and manpower to produce more and reach out to a wider consumer base.
He stated that as organisations are restructuring, re-engineering and rethinking how they do business in an effort to keep pace with changes in technology and other economic conditions in the world, business owners must also leverage on the opportunity made available by technology to advance their sales.
While highlighting efforts by his administration to create an enabling environment for MSMEs to thrive, the Governor said, “In line with our agenda of Making Lagos a 21st Century Economy, our administration is willing and ready to invest heavily in critical infrastructure that will accelerate the growth of our economy and empower the private sector and MSMEs who are the real engines of economic growth”.
According to him, the strategic position of the State as the nation’s most endowed economy and one of the fastest-growing economies in Africa makes it extremely imperative for this government to pay undivided attention to creating a conducive and thriving environment for MSMEs to grow and develop.
He also reiterated the support of his administration to the Organised Private Sector and MSMEs in the areas of provision of critical infrastructure such as power, water, inter-modal transportation and waste management among many other initiatives, stressing that all these are geared towards making life more convenient for our people and enhancing the productive capacities of our entrepreneurs.
